Overview

Wordle is a daily word game published by The New York Times. It can be played for free in a web browser on the official New York Times website, and it is also available in the New York Times Games app for Android and iOS.

Each day there is a single hidden five-letter word, and everyone gets the same puzzle. You have six tries to guess it. After each guess, the letters change colour to show whether a letter is in the word and in the correct position, in the word but in a different position, or not in the word at all. You use these hints to narrow down the answer. An optional Hard Mode requires you to use revealed hints in later guesses, and the game keeps statistics such as your winning streak.

Wordle takes only a few minutes a day and is popular with students, families and anyone who enjoys vocabulary puzzles. The daily Wordle is free; The New York Times offers a separate paid subscription for its wider collection of games. Play only on nytimes.com or in the official app, as many imitation sites exist.
